to the Hull

FITTING THE KEEL

When to join the keel and hull

Below is a picture of a double chine hull being built upside down. This picture indicates a hull whose framework has been faired, fully welded, and plated from the sheerline to its lower chine.

Fitting the Keel

Lift the pre-fabricated keel assembly over the hull and lower into place aligning all the frames at the same time. The below drawing illustrates the proper relationship, at a single frame, between keel and hull.

The two assemblies (hull & keel) are aligned together and held temporally with various clamping devices. The clamps are loosened and tightened to achieve the final alignment between the keel and hull. When satisfied with the position tack weld securely.

The pictures below show the hull completely plated with keel attached.
