BEZIER 28 PLANS

Bezier 28 ALUMINUM BOAT PLANS

DESIGN OBJECTIVES - BÉZIER 28

The design objective was to achieve the beauty and style of a classic design, illustrated in the below Lines Drawings. It's classic sheerline and freeboard low to the waterline enhances a good sailing boat styled with tradition.

Inspired by the designs of the 50's and 60's, the aluminum boat plans for the DS 28 Bézier compliments that tradition. This updated aluminum "day sailor" has a full keel with attached rudder. The hull incorporates a true round shape at the turn of the chine while the hull surface above and below are designed for easy construction in aluminum. Its NACA foil sectioned full keel is attached to the hull similar to a fin keel. This design provides safety and stability.

Typical of daysailors, most of the time will be spent in the cockpit. Therefore, a large comfortable cockpit layout is provided. Followed by a large workable fore deck.

A priority for the interior accommodations is the galley of the boat. Food for the day needs to be stored and prepared, and a workable counter space is a must. Since the boat has only sitting headroom throughout, a non-traditional companionway hatch is used to bring headroom to the main cabin.

Amenities of the interior are a large vee berth with sitting headroom. To save space for the main cabin, the head is located under the vee berth. Personal items of the crew and guest conveniently are stored in lockers on the starboard side in the main cabin.

PRELIMINARY SPECFICATIONS - DS 28 Bézier
Length on Deck 28.00 Feet
Length Waterline 21.70 Feet
Beam at Waterline 6.78 Feet
Beam on Deck 8.10 Feet
Displacement 5330 Pounds
Draft 3.67 Feet
Displacement to Length Ratio 232

DECK LAYOUT

The aluminum boat plans show that the helmsman has his own seating. His or her activities are free from interference of the other crew members and vice versa. There is seating for four in the cockpit.

Gear is stowed in the lazzerett aft of the helmsman. Other storage is provided under the crews seating.

The fore deck is large and fitted with lifelines and bow rails for safety.

INTERIOR LAYOUT AND GALLEY HEADROOM

In this view we see one of the crew who is 6'0" tall standing at the galley. Since this boat normally would only have sitting headroom due to styling, a non-traditional companionway hatch has overcome this restriction. The hatch boards are removable all the way to the mast, similar to drop boards.

With the hatch boards removed to the mast, a crewmember can prepare a meal standing and have a line of sight of the entire counter top.

The entrance to the vee berth is shown, with full sitting headroom on the end of the Vee berth. Also shown are the port side hanging lockers. These keep organization and safety in a small space.

HEADROOM AND COMPANIONWAY HATCH

Since the boat is designed with exterior styling in mind, the interior has sitting headroom only. Standing headroom can be achieved, by a non-traditional cockpit companionway in the main cabin, see concept drawings below.

INTERIOR LAYOUT - PLAN VIEW:

The first compartment at the bow is the chain or anchor locker. Followed by storage accessed from the vee berth. The vee berth is a generous size. The head is located under the vee berth on the Port side.

In the main cabin on the Port side is the icebox along with a small sink set into the counter top. Storage cabinet doors and drawers are located under the icebox and sink.

Aft of the counter is a single seat with full sitting headroom

On the starboard side are four (4) storage lockers with doors to stow personal items. Additionally, one (1) open storage space is located at the companionway for items quickly accessible to the cockpit.

The inboard diesel engine is located under the companionway ladder.

INTERIOR LAYOUT - PORT SIDE PROFILE

At the bow the chain locker is viable, followed by storage then the Vee berth.

It can be seen that there is sitting headroom at the aft end of the berth, under the house section. The head is under this section.

The galley profiles shows the cabinet doors and drawers for storage. Continuing aft is the single seat on the port side with the engine shown under the companionway ladder.

In the cockpit we can see the relationship between the helmsman seat, wheel steering pedestal and crew seating

All electronics for the boat are located pedestal steering.

INTERIOR LAYOUT - STARBOARD SIDE PROFILE:

The difference between the port and starboard side is in the main cabin. The profile drawing shows the four (4) door storage lockers, along with the open storage unit near the cockpit.
