English Wheeling
 - Car Body Panels -

Considering the number of visits I receive on my website I creating this web page for those in car restoration.

It has come to my attention that my 'English Wheeling' pages detailing the advances in 'English Wheeling' applicable to forming of the compound curved Shell Plating for True Round steel and aluminum hull fabrication has attracted many Folks from the World of 'Car Restoration'.

While I have always been aware that this technology could be used to flatten the Shell Plating of a True Round steel or aluminum onto a single plane could easily be applied to car restoration my main was always focused on True Round steel and aluminum Boatbuilding.

How 'Approximate Development' works

I have visited many websites on Car Restoration.  I can see that the Craftmanship that goes into fabricating a body panel requires a person that is dedicated, knowgeable, hands on.

While the hands-on craftmanship of the person in this field is always a the main factor, however, many of the techniques used can be improved upon using todays technology such as the use of Three-dimensional scanners to define the surface of the car or a single body panel that needs to be reproduced.

I will be using a three-dimension file that was download, free of charge, from a third party website and reduce the fender of that car onto a single plane - Flat pattern.

Since this is the beginning of the project I am going to refer you this the following page which details how the shell plating of a steel or aluminum hull is reduced to single plane then English Wheeled back to its three-dimensional shape via English Wheeling.

The same process to from the compound surface of this boat hull is used to form the car fender that will be shown here.
