Dark Harbor
VCG Spreadsheet

The reason I took the time to do a weight study was threefold.

  • To find the location of the 'Vertical Center of Gravity', which was calculated at -0.417 feet below the Design Waterline.
  • To verify that all the component weights that make up design coinsided with the Static Hydrostatic of the Model File.  The weight given from the Model File Static Hydrostatic was 3503#, the weight given on the plans was 3500#, and lastly the weight calculated from my 'Weight Study' was 3,433#.    All looks well here.
  • Again the Static Hydrostatic place the location of the 'Center of Bouyance' at 13.780 feet aft of the Fore Point, while the 'Weight Study' calculated the location of the 'Center of Gravity Gravity at 13.808 feet from the Fore Point.  Where it must be - right over the 'Center of Bouyance.

So Far, so Good

The Weight Study

  • (See the Specifications - For example find that the 'Hull Planking' is Cedar about 3/4" finish thickness.
  • The 'Static Hydrostatics' follows 'The Weight Study' where you can verify, for yourself, that both are congruent.
